I would love to see a new library with lots of space for our children and teens, so they won't have to sit on the floor anymore! Sara, thank you for all your hard work to make Carson a more beautiful place to "live and mingle and be." :)SnowLeopardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02063850027177277537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371350131902444944.post-74535821795972695772010-03-27T10:04:54.088-07:002010-03-27T10:04:54.088-07:00Thanks for the great comments, I do think one of t...Thanks for the great comments, I do think one of the problems with people understanding what a new library might be is when they don't have another frame of reference. I also agree that computers are just one of our services, but in all cases whether its needing more books, places to read and enjoy reading or computers-all of those are negatively impacted by our lack of space.Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13483757149757127513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371350131902444944.post-19916029721508477082010-03-27T09:17:21.904-07:002010-03-27T09:17:21.904-07:00Oh I meant solely a place for computer use. I do support commuter use in our library.SariJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11576155931734364322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371350131902444944.post-45470302195305911292010-03-27T09:16:26.287-07:002010-03-27T09:16:26.287-07:00I do not feel the library should become a place wh...I do not feel the library should become a place where people use computers. I see the library as a place of wonderment and learning possibilities.
Yes it is nice that those who cannot afford computers know they can come to the library, but let us take this opportunity to make it so much more!
Here is a list of possible uses for a larger library:
A place for reading groups to gather. The library could host a reading group. Imagine how large this group would be!
A large library may attract more author stops. We are lacking in author visits in this state. I would love to see well known authors make Carson City one of their book tour stops.
Bigger better displays; some libraries have museum quality displays; designed to attract readers to historic events and people. Educating the public about history may foster a love of history in children.
A bigger library means more books! I am saddened by the lack of best sellers, well known authors etc. I would love to see more books and a bigger variety. This in itself would attract more readers.
Finally a bigger room for the children section is a must! I do like the layout of our children section but coming from Kalispell Montana (you should see their library!) I am shocked by how small the space is, and how meager the selection is. If we want our children to become better educated we need more room for books and for hosting children themed events.SariJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11576155931734364322noreply@blogger.com
